Ever since our first major trip in 1990 we have attempted to make a motorcycle trip of some kind. Although we missed years because of illness or simply lack of time, we have been pretty reliable. This year will be no different. We are heading out mid July and, other than spending a few days in Mandan, ND with Mike and Karin, we have no definite plans. I didn't even try to come up with a clever or even meaningful name for this trip.
Although we don't have hard and fast plans, we need to decide on something other than head east. With that in mind we plan to head toward Lewiston Idaho with the thought of taking highway 12 through Idaho and ending up on Lolo Pass. We have not taken this road in a number of years and it's one of our favorites. From there we may head to Glacier and do the Going to the Sun Road again, also one of our favorites. The last time we did it there were fires everywhere and the visibility was very poor not to mention closed roads and detours. That's the extent of our plans. On the way back from Mandan we may do the Beartooth Highway and Beartooth Pass. Both times we road that it was cold and rainy, it would be nice to ride it in nicer weather.
