White Sands 2024 Day03
Today was somewhat of a study in contrasts. First we left Burley at a
chilly 54 degrees and ended up at 93 degrees. More than that the first
third of the trip was the virtual desert from Burley, ID through
northern Utah. Then we hit the stretch from Ogden through Salt Lake
City and Provo where the traffic was very congested - no slow downs but
people constantly changing lanes to try to get ahead. It was more
stressful then we prefer. We definitely will not take that route going
home. Eventually we turned off I-15 onto US 6E and were amazed. The
first 60 miles or so were very scenic, even including a 7500 foot pass.
We never expected this so it was a bonus. Unfortunately the last 60
mies were like the first stretch - barren and brown. As a plus the
traffic was very light the entire time we were on on 6E.
Tonight
we stayed at a Holiday Inn Express in Green River, UT that appears to
be brand new. It has a hot tub that is huge. You could easily fit 20
people in it although Linda and I were the only ones in it.
Tomorrow
we head for Grants, NM. The first stretch is on I-70 and the rest of
the route is on US 191 and Us 491 so we have no idea what to expect -
except that it will probably be warm.
