NLBM 2022 - Day 08
Another near perfect motorcycle day. We were on I-29 the entire day
but the traffic was light, the temperatures were good, and we
made great time. Not too much to see along the way except farms and
ranches. There is definitely a lot of flat land in this part of the
country.
We stopped every 100 miles or so to get gas and take a break. At 70 to
75 miles per hour the trike gets terrible gas mileage but the gas is
much cheaper than in Washington. We even saw gas at several stations at
3.149/gallon. When we left home the cheapest price was 4.399 per
gallon.
We
had a few hiccups when we arrived. I checked the map before we left
last night and we had to take I-29 all the way to Kansas City and get
off at exit 6 and the hotel would be a couple of blocks away, but no
hotel. Apparently the exits go down to 1 and the start going back up
again because the route actually changes from I-29 to I-35. We had to
get on Google maps and let the lady guide us in. The next problem was
that the Holiday Inn Express had no confirmation of our reservation. We
made reservations last night through Booking.com because we were having
trouble with the IHG website. The first time we submitted the
reservation there was some kind of glitch and booking.com accepted our
credit card and then the reservation froze and we didn't get a
reservation or confirmation. So we tried a second time and that time it went
through and we got a confirmation number and we thought everything was
fine. We even got an email from Booking.com telling us that they had
processed a refund for out failed reservation. Fortunately the hotel is
not busy and they had plenty of rooms. Come to find out the entire IHG
server network is down and they are having all sorts of problems. We
tried to make a reservation for tomorrow night at a hotel in Hays,
Kansas and the only way we could do it was to call their front desk
directly - which we did. Hopefully we will have a room when we get in
tomorrow night.
We are ready for the museum tomorrow
morning. It opens at 10:00 and we hope to be there when it opens.
According to everything we read two hours should give us a pretty good
experience and then we will head west.
