This is going to be short today.  It's been a strange day.  It started out with me waking up with a slight cold that didn't get much better during the day.  But we got off to an early start despite rather cool temperatures.  The ride this morning was very nice.  Route 395 from Pendleton down to John Day is very nice - good roads, scenic, and low traffic - about all you could ask for.  We really enjoyed the morning.

The problems started this afternoon.  The road and scenery were very boring - so boring that we somehow missed our turnoff.  Route 395 joined up with 20 for a ways but then split off in Riley.  Unfortunately we never saw Riley.  I'm sure it's there but somehow we missed it.  We were supposedly headed for Lakeview and suddenly realized that we hadn't seen any signs in a long time and then realized, as we thought about it, we hadn't seen any signs for 395 either.  So we stopped and checked our Atlas and, sure enough, we were still on 20 headed for Bend.  Rather than turn around and endure those same boring roads in the other direction we went on to Bend and then headed south to La Pine.

We found a nice motel and checked in for the night and that's when the next problem emerged.  When we left our room in Pendleton we somehow left the power supply for the laptop sitting on the floor in the room.  So we are battery power tonight and I'm hoping we have enough to get this posted before we run out.  We called the motel and they have the power supply so we are heading back to Pendleton tomorrow by a different route.  Once we get the power supply and evaluate the weather, we'll make a decision as to what to do next.
