I'm not even sure where to start today. Let's start with setting a record for this trip - one that we would rather not have set. At one point in Western Nebraska we hit 107.9 degrees which was almost 5 degrees hotter than we experienced earlier in the trip in Montana. The only time I can remember being hotter was on a previous trip I think in El Centro, California where it hit around 112 degrees.

Then there was the two miles of unpaved road. We occasionally use Google Map directions while we're riding since there are occasional closures and detours that we don't know about. Well today we were traveling north on US 183 out of Hays, Kansas when Google put us on a 3 mile bypass - two miles of which were unpaved and heavily rutted - not a fun ride. Looking at the detailed map, it looks like 183 ends or joins US 36 and then restarts a mile later. Apparently Google didn't understand that and put us on the alternate route. It was not a big deal just a pain.

Then there was the gas station where we stopped at some point today where the pumps were so old you couldn't read the display and they couldn't accept any of the credit cards we had that had chips. We had to go inside and use the credit card reader for an amount more than we thought which was then adjusted after we finished - hopefully. We still haven't checked to make sure it really happened.

The final blow was at dinner. In keeping with our new strategy, we are staying at a very nice Hampton Inn but all of the restaurants were a half to 2 miles away. We walked to a Wendy's since it was just easier. We placed our order and I got salad. When they gave us the order, they gave us a spoon for the salad. I explained that you really couldn't eat a salad very well with a spoon. They explained that they were out of forks, sort of apologized and pushed the tray to us. I again reiterated that you couldn't eat a salad with a spoon which they really didn't understand. We eventually decided to take the order to go and take it back to our room where we had forks and could eat there.

We're heading for Tremonton, Utah tomorrow and it looks like the weather will be changing significantly. It looks like the temperature will be in the 40s when we leave tomorrow. Fortunately we brought our vests with us so we should be fine.
